BETTY MAE TIGER JUMPER
Author of three books, preserver of ancient stories, interperter for her Tribe, newspaper editor, nurse, Betty Mae Tiger Jumper was the first woman elected leader of The Seminole Tribe of Florida. She attained this post in 1967.
Florida State University awarded her an honorary doctorate in 1994 for her years of advocating for change & for her bringing improvements in the health, education & economic conditions of her people.
